Peters Township Middle School wins 2014 Pittsburgh Scholastic Disc Golf Series
Lead by Rookies of the Year Jackson and Damien Busche, Peters Township School District won the Pipe and Chains team trophy and an Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) disc golf curriculum and equipment package worth $1000 at the recently concluded Pittsburgh Scholastic Disc Golf Series.
Jason Huber of Baldwin High School won the high school division in the 5 event series. Jackson Busche won the middle school division, with younger brother Damien second, and Devin Reiher from Deer Lakes in third overall.
All players, including girls and boys as young as 1st grade, received a disc golf teeshirt for playing in the series, as well as a custom golf disc and prizes at each of the events they played.
Pittsburgh Flying Disc Society (PFDS) sponsored the series for the 18th year and provided instruction, prizes and donated the EDGE curriculum package, which includes portable baskets, golf discs and curriculum materials, to the Peters Township Middle School for use in their physical education classes.
Boyce Middle School won the disc golf series and the EDGE package in 2013.
"We hope a future world champion will come from these disc golf events for kids," said Series Director J. Gary Dropcho, "but we know that these young players are learning a fun and inexpensive lifetime sport by participating."
